Media and
Technology at Central Ridge
Welcome to the Media and Technology page at Central Ridge
Elementary. From this page you can learn about the exciting things
happening at the Media Center and Technology Labs. Students
attend the media center on the specials rotation, spending two days
with Mrs. Morrow our Media Specialist. Students learn about research
skills, reading strategies, and library use. Students also come to the media center for book check out as well. Students can choose from over 7,000 titles. Our book selection also matches our Accelerated Reader (AR) quizzes. Accelerated Reader is a motivation tool that really gets students reading! The quizzes/books are leveled.
The Technology Lab holds 24 computers for student
instruction. Student instruction is divided into
Primary (Pre-K through
Second Grade) and Intermediate (Third through Fifth grade).
Keyboarding is taught
through all grade levels, focusing on keyboard awareness for K-1 and
keyboarding accuracy and speed for all other grade levels.
Primary students will spend a large percentage of their time
accelerating their skills based on curriculum from their classrooms.
For example, Kindergarten and Pre-K students spend time
working on programs that enhance their letter recognition.
Intermediate students will spend a great deal of time
learning the ins and outs of office related programs like spreadsheets,
word processors, databases, and presentation software. There is also a second 24 computer lab which is open for teachers to use on a sign up basis.

Student Work
- Common Ground Project: 2nd Graders learned in Science Lab that humans have a direct impact on the palnts and animals we share the earth with. We then read the book Common Ground by Molly Bang and shared the themes in the book. In tech lab they used Tux Paint to create pictures about how they interpreted this lesson.
- Animoto Movies (4th and 5th Grade) 4th and 5th Grade students are learning to use Web 2.0 technologies. One of these is Animoto. With animoto, students can create intricate music videos from pre-selected pictures. Our next step in using animoto is to use this with a science project. Stay tuned for more information!
